Toddler teaching

While Toddlers, ages 18 months to three years, may be among the smallest (and standing upright…the shortest!) people, they think big! The toddler room is where the greatest and most obvious early childhood milestones take place – learning (in varying degrees) to steadily walk, talk, and become potty trained, within a short period of time. WOW! Because toddlers love to be on the move, Options provides them with opportunities for physical activities, both indoors and out, throughout the day. They are encouraged to participate in singing, dancing, climbing, and other large motor skill development activities.

Their newfound mobility opens up many new experiences to the toddlers, and they are continually encouraged by staff to use their words to communicate their reactions, needs, and wants. As they grow, Options caregivers introduce healthy social development practices. They encourage the Toddlers to share willingly, when appropriate, with their friends and to respond to others using basic manners and consideration of their feelings. Taught both directly and indirectly, the Toddlers are introduced to identifying colors, shapes, the weather, and appropriate clothing to wear, for example. They are often asked to make simple choices regarding mealtime options, an activity preference, or a peer interaction.

Throughout their day, the toddlers are each given caregiver attention, support, encouragement, enthusiasm, and praise for their big and little accomplishments. Remember, toddlers are truly works in progress! Our goal at Options is, in a safe and sanitary environment, to help develop secure, confident, happy children, who, by age 3 years, are prepared to take the next big step into the world of preschool.
